Midland, Texas – Residents across West and Southwest Texas are under a tornado watch until 4 a.m. Tuesday, with nighttime storms posing a serious threat to areas from Midland to Uvalde.
According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, Tornado Watch 229 includes 29 counties across the region, covering cities such as Andrews, Kerrville, and Del Rio. Strong rotating storms could produce tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds overnight. The watch was issued at 8:55 p.m. CDT Monday.
Communities in Ector, Reeves, Tom Green, and Bandera counties should prepare for fast-moving storms with little warning. Drivers on I-10 near Crockett and Kinney counties and US-385 through Crane and Pecos should remain alert for sudden changes in weather conditions. Emergency managers advise keeping phones charged, securing outdoor items, and having a safe shelter location ready.
This marks one of the season’s broadest tornado watches so far in West Texas, with conditions ripe for severe weather due to increased moisture and instability from the Gulf.
The tornado watch remains active until 4 a.m. CDT Tuesday, with updates expected overnight as storms track eastward. Stay tuned to NOAA Weather Radio and local alerts for any warnings.
