Cook County, IL – A former Prospect High School supervisor has been charged after allegedly misusing a school district credit card to make more than $37,000 in unauthorized purchases, according to Arlington Heights police.
The investigation began in August 2025 when School District 214 reported suspicious transactions linked to its Building and Grounds Supervisor. According to authorities, district audits uncovered repeated unauthorized purchases at Home Depot stores across the Chicago area starting in January 2025. Most purchases involved power tools, with individual transactions ranging from $250 to over $2,000.
Detectives with the Arlington Heights Police Department identified 42-year-old Jorge V. Villagomez of Schaumburg as the suspect. According to police, investigators reviewed receipts, financial records, and surveillance video before taking Villagomez into custody on Wednesday, October 1.
Following consultation with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Villagomez was charged with one Class 1 felony count of Theft of Government Property exceeding $10,000 but under $100,000. His detention hearing is scheduled for Friday, October 3, 2025, at 9 a.m. in Cook County Circuit Court’s Rolling Meadows location.
The district is reportedly facing a financial loss of more than $37,000 from the alleged thefts.
