Palos Park, IL – Families in Palos Park and surrounding Cook County communities can take advantage of a free child car seat safety check event this Saturday afternoon, aimed at ensuring young passengers are properly secured.

According to the Palos Park Police Department, certified technicians will be available on May 31 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Palos Islamic Center, located at 12300 S. 80th Avenue in Palos Park. The event is open to the public and designed to help parents and caregivers confirm their child’s car seat is correctly installed.

Police say improper installation is a common issue that can significantly reduce the effectiveness of a car seat in a crash. Officers and trained experts will provide hands-on assistance, check for recalls, and offer guidance on proper fit based on a child’s age, height, and weight.

Residents can either stop by during the event window or schedule an appointment in advance by contacting Officer Duffy at the Palos Park Police Department. Officials say the goal is to give families peace of mind and reduce preventable injuries among children on local roadways.

The Palos Islamic Center is partnering with police to host the event, providing a central location accessible to residents across Palos Park, nearby Orland Park, and the broader southwest suburban Chicago area.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time during the event window, as brief wait times may occur depending on turnout.
