Columbia, SC – A passing cold front is pushing light showers across the Midlands this morning, creating slick spots on I-26, I-20, and area surface roads through late morning before conditions improve early this afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, isolated showers will taper off by around 11 a.m. Sunday as the front exits east. Behind it, a cooler and much drier air mass settles in, setting up several days of clear, stable conditions across central South Carolina.
Communities including Columbia, Lexington, Sumter, and Orangeburg may see brief rain early, but rainfall totals remain minimal. High temperatures today will range from 70 to 75 degrees, with clouds giving way to increasing sunshine by mid to late afternoon. Winds may shift and become breezy at times, especially along open stretches of I-77 and rural highways.
Drivers should remain cautious during the morning hours, particularly on bridges and shaded roads where moisture lingers. Keep headlights on in light rain and allow extra distance between vehicles during any sudden slowdowns.
Skies clear quickly after sunset, with temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 40s overnight. Dry weather holds through Wednesday, with a steady warming trend beginning by midweek. The next update is expected early Monday, though no additional hazards are anticipated in the short term.
