Pueblo, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to impact portions of Colorado, bringing heavy snow and strong winds that could create hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 5 p.m. Monday until 5 p.m. Tuesday for Teller County, the Rampart Range, Pikes Peak, and Northern El Paso County, including Black Forest and Woodland Park. Snow accumulations are expected to range from 2 to 9 inches, with localized heavier amounts possible at higher elevations. Winds could gust as high as 65 mph, leading to potential whiteout conditions.
Officials warn that travel will be extremely dangerous, particularly during the Monday evening and Tuesday morning commutes. Visibility could drop below 1/4 mile due to blowing and falling snow, making roadways treacherous. The strong winds may also cause extensive tree damage and power outages.
Residents are urged to delay travel if possible and take extra precautions if driving is necessary. The National Weather Service advises motorists to keep an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight in their vehicles.
For updated road conditions, drivers can call 511 or check the Colorado Department of Transportation’s website.
