Pueblo, CO – A Red Flag Warning has been issued for much of southeastern and central Colorado, taking effect from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. MST on Monday, March 3. Officials warn that strong winds and extremely low humidity levels will create hazardous fire conditions across multiple counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, the affected areas include Pueblo, Huerfano, Las Animas, Otero, Bent, Prowers, and Baca counties, as well as portions of El Paso, Crowley, and Kiowa counties. A separate Red Flag Warning has also been issued by the Denver/Boulder office for southeast Elbert and southern Lincoln counties from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. MST Monday.

Winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph in the southeast plains, while other areas may experience gusts of up to 40 mph. Relative humidity levels are forecasted to drop as low as 10 to 15 percent, significantly increasing the risk of wildfires.

Authorities urge residents to avoid outdoor burning and any activities that could generate sparks. Fire officials stress that if a fire ignites, it will spread rapidly and erratically due to the dry conditions and high winds.

Residents are advised to remain alert, follow local emergency updates, and prepare for potential evacuations if necessary. The warning will remain in effect until conditions improve Monday evening.
