Pueblo, Colorado – Strong storms are expected to push across the I-25 corridor and eastern Colorado plains Thursday afternoon, bringing damaging winds, lightning, and hail through the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will develop around midday in the high country before tracking eastward into cities like Colorado Springs, Pueblo, and La Junta. A marginal risk (Level 1 of 5) has been issued for severe weather, with wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph, small hail, and frequent lightning posing the greatest threats.

While the tornado risk remains low, scattered thunderstorms could disrupt travel along I-25 and U.S. Highway 50, particularly during the evening commute. Outdoor events and activities could face delays or cancellations, especially in southeastern counties such as Baca, Bent, and Las Animas.

Residents should have multiple ways to receive alerts and remain weather-aware throughout the day. Prepare for sudden wind shifts, secure loose outdoor items, and avoid open areas during lightning activity. Power outages are possible in isolated areas.

Storm chances will taper late Thursday night, but more rounds of summer thunderstorms are possible into the weekend.
