Pueblo, Colo. – Strong to severe thunderstorms could hit eastern Colorado this afternoon, with the greatest threat of large hail and damaging wind developing after 1 p.m. along the I-25 corridor and around 3 p.m. near the Kansas border.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, gusty outflow winds may reach up to 70 mph, with brief but intense rainfall and hailstones as large as 1.5 inches possible. The highest risk zones include areas east of Colorado Springs and Pueblo, especially near La Junta, Lamar, and Burlington.
Communities in El Paso, Otero, Prowers, and Baca counties should prepare for rapid storm development, especially in open areas where visibility may drop and travel becomes dangerous. The primary hazard is damaging wind, but hail could impact crops, vehicles, and unprotected structures.
Residents with outdoor plans are urged to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive emergency alerts. Secure loose items, avoid unnecessary travel, and shelter indoors during storms.
The risk remains elevated through Monday evening, with more advisories possible if storm coverage increases.
