Pueblo, Colo. – Severe thunderstorms packing 70 mph wind gusts and hail up to 1.5 inches are expected across southeast Colorado this afternoon, with the most dangerous activity near the Kansas border in Kiowa, Prowers, and Baca counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storms will intensify after 1 p.m. Monday and move eastward, bringing the risk of damaging winds, isolated hail, and dangerous lightning through the evening. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch or Warning may be issued later today.

Communities including Lamar, Springfield, and Eads could see severe conditions by late afternoon. Pueblo and La Junta are in line for strong but less intense storms, while Colorado Springs may experience lighter activity. Travelers along Highways 50 and 287 should monitor conditions closely. Outdoor activities should be rescheduled, and residents are urged to secure loose objects and ensure cell phones are charged in case of outages.

This is the second round of storms this week for southern Colorado, and conditions could worsen if additional moisture pools along the Front Range.

Severe thunderstorm risks remain in effect through tonight. Additional updates are expected by early evening.
