Boulder, CO – A Saturday afternoon protest turned violent in downtown Boulder when a man allegedly hurled Molotov-style incendiary devices into a crowd, injuring multiple families and children during a public walk held in support of Israeli hostages in Gaza.

According to Boulder police, the attack occurred around 1:26 p.m. during a peaceful event along Pearl Street. Authorities said the suspect, identified only as a white male, allegedly ignited several firebombs, causing chaos and multiple injuries. As of 6 p.m., three blocks of Pearl Street remained evacuated and closed to the public. Investigators are examining a vehicle of interest found in the area, although it is not yet confirmed to be connected to the suspect.

Two sources close to the investigation said witnesses reported hearing the suspect allegedly shout “End Zionist!” as the firebombs were thrown. The event underway at the time was a community walk to honor and remember Israeli hostages believed to still be held in Gaza.

Governor Jared Polis responded in a public statement Saturday evening, saying, “I am closely monitoring the situation in Boulder, and my thoughts go out to the people who have been injured and impacted by this heinous act of terror. Hate-filled acts of any kind are unacceptable. While details emerge, the state works with local and federal law enforcement to support this investigation.”

Emergency responders treated victims on-site while police and fire personnel secured the area. Law enforcement has not released the identity of the suspect, who was taken into custody shortly after the incident.

Federal agencies, including the FBI and ATF, are assisting with the investigation. Authorities urge the public to avoid the downtown area as the investigation continues.

This is a developing story.
