Denver, CO – A Red Flag Warning is in effect today from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the northeast plains of Colorado, including Morgan, Logan, and Washington counties. Strong winds and low humidity are increasing the risk of wildfires across the region.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), southwest winds will range between 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph. Humidity levels will drop as low as 14%, creating conditions favorable for rapid fire spread. The warning affects fire zones 244 through 251.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and activities that may produce sparks, such as using power tools or grilling. Any fires that start today could spread quickly and become difficult to control. Those living in rural areas are advised to clear dry vegetation from around homes and stay updated on emergency notifications.

The NWS emphasizes that a Red Flag Warning signals critical fire conditions are occurring or expected. Winds will diminish later this evening, but until then, extreme caution is recommended to prevent potential wildfires.
