Topeka, KS – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. today across northeast, east central, and north central Kansas due to strong winds and low humidity. These conditions create a high fire risk, especially in areas near I-70 and U.S. 24.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), winds will range between 20-30 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, while humidity levels will drop to as low as 19% this afternoon. These factors significantly increase the likelihood of fires spreading quickly if ignited.

Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and any activity that could create sparks, such as using machinery or grilling. Fires that develop under these conditions will be challenging to control. Those in rural areas should clear dry vegetation from around homes and secure outdoor objects against the strong winds.
