Omaha, NE – Bitter cold grips Nebraska today with wind chills near zero, but relief is on the way as the weekend approaches. Highs are expected to climb into the 40s and even 50s by Sunday, offering a much-needed break from freezing conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, Friday’s high will struggle to reach 26 degrees, with wind gusts making it feel even colder. Residents are urged to bundle up and limit outdoor exposure. However, Saturday brings sunny skies and a high near 35, signaling a warming trend that will continue through early next week.

Sunday will likely see highs around 45 to 50, with light winds making for pleasant outdoor conditions. This warming pattern is expected to hold through Christmas, with Monday’s high forecasted near 49 and Tuesday reaching 44. Those planning holiday travel should take advantage of the mild conditions.

The longer-term forecast looks favorable for road conditions, with no significant snow or rain expected. If traveling, check your vehicle’s winter readiness and keep an emergency kit handy, as nighttime lows will remain below freezing, around 25 to 28 degrees.

Looking ahead to Christmas Day, expect partly sunny skies and highs in the mid-40s, perfect for holiday gatherings and outdoor activities.
