Mid-Atlantic, U.S. – Unseasonably cool temperatures are expected across the Mid-Atlantic this week, with potential for record-breaking lows. The National Weather Service reports that a strong area of high pressure moving in behind a cold front is responsible for the cooler weather.

According to the Weather Prediction Center, low temperatures in the region could drop to the mid-50s along the I-95 corridor, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday mornings. This unusual August chill is a result of clear skies and northwest winds, which enhance radiational cooling overnight.

These conditions could challenge existing daily low-temperature records in cities such as Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. The cooler air will be felt most acutely during the late evening and early morning hours.

Residents are advised to prepare for these cooler conditions, which may serve as an early taste of autumn. However, this brief cold snap is expected to give way to warmer temperatures by the weekend, bringing a return to more typical late-summer weather.
