Cleveland, OH – Northern Ohio residents should prepare for a wet and windy night as a strong cold front sweeps across the state, according to the National Weather Service Cleveland. Showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop tonight and continue through early Monday, bringing 0.5 to 1 inch of rainfall and gusts between 35 and 45 mph.

The weather service said the strongest winds are likely late tonight through Sunday afternoon as the cold front moves across the region. Locations including Cleveland, Akron, Toledo, Youngstown, and Erie may experience brief heavy downpours and isolated thunder as the front passes.

According to the agency’s update, winds will shift westward and gradually weaken Sunday evening. The rain is forecast to taper off by early Monday morning, though some areas could see slightly higher totals where thunderstorms develop.

Motorists are advised to use caution on highways such as I-80, I-71, and I-90, where slick conditions and crosswinds could create hazards during overnight and early morning travel.
