Cincinnati, Ohio – Slick stretches could develop on I-71 and I-75 before sunrise Sunday as colder air pushes back into the Ohio Valley, setting the stage for light snow and wintry mix through Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a more active pattern returns late this weekend. After a mild start, temperatures will fall Sunday as colder air filters into southwest Ohio. A light wintry mix may begin early Sunday, especially north and east of Cincinnati, before more widespread precipitation develops Sunday night into early Monday.

Roadways across Hamilton, Butler and Clermont counties may see brief periods of snow or a rain-snow mix Sunday morning. Even minor accumulation can create slick overpasses along I-275 and elevated ramps on I-74. As temperatures hover near 32 degrees, untreated pavement could ice over quickly.

The greater concern shifts to Sunday night when steadier precipitation spreads across the region. Light snow could coat grassy areas and secondary roads, while bridges along I-71 toward Warren County and I-75 into northern Kentucky face refreezing risks by early Monday. Commuters should anticipate slower travel for the Monday morning drive, particularly before 7 a.m.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, increase following distance and avoid sudden lane changes on wet or slushy pavement. Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle and allow extra time for work or school travel Monday morning.

Colder air remains in place into early next week, keeping any lingering moisture capable of freezing overnight. Additional advisories may be issued if snowfall coverage becomes more widespread.
