Fort Wayne, Indiana – Wind gusts near 30 mph will sweep across northeast Indiana through Friday evening before a round of light snow threatens I-69 late Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, mild and breezy conditions will push highs into the 50s Friday, with southwest winds gusting close to 30 mph across Allen, DeKalb and LaGrange counties. Drivers along I-69 and I-469 may notice crosswinds on open stretches, especially during the late afternoon commute.

Colder air returns this weekend, setting up two chances for light snow. The first arrives late Saturday, mainly north of US-30, where up to 1 inch of accumulation is possible by early Sunday. Communities including Auburn, Angola and areas toward the Michigan state line face the highest potential for minor coatings on roads and sidewalks.

A second round of light snow may develop Sunday night into early Monday morning, with the better chances shifting south of US-30. That places Fort Wayne, New Haven and stretches of US-24 at risk for slick spots before daybreak Monday. While snowfall amounts remain light, pavement temperatures will be colder, allowing snow to stick more efficiently than recent systems.

Drivers should prepare for changing conditions by reducing speed on bridges and overpasses, particularly along I-69 north of the city. Keep headlights on during periods of snow and allow extra braking distance. Residents should also secure loose outdoor items Friday due to gusty winds.

Temperatures trend cooler into early next week, and additional advisories may be issued if snowfall confidence increases.
