Chicago, IL – A DuPage County judge has denied pre-trial release for Rakeem Wilton, 28, a convicted felon from Chicago, charged with illegally possessing two loaded handguns. Wilton faces multiple felony charges after fleeing Hinsdale police during a traffic stop on September 5.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Hinsdale police attempted to stop Wilton’s vehicle for improper lane usage at 5 a.m. The vehicle, which had Ohio plates, failed to pull over, leading to a crash at Vine Street. Wilton allegedly attempted to flee but was apprehended after a short foot chase.

Officers recovered two loaded handguns during the arrest. One, thrown from the car during the chase, was a loaded Smith & Wesson pistol. Another, found in the car, was a Springfield Armory pistol.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin emphasized the serious nature of the charges, citing Wilton’s prior felony convictions. Wilton remains in custody, with his next court appearance scheduled for September 30. If convicted, he faces up to 30 years in prison.
