Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service has confirmed two tornadoes following Monday’s severe storms across the Chicago metropolitan area, while survey teams continue evaluating additional damage throughout northeastern Illinois.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago office, survey crews have confirmed an EF-1 tornado in Lansing and an EF-0 tornado in Glen Ellyn. The agency also confirmed that straight-line wind damage occurred in Carol Stream and Downers Grove during the same storm system.
Officials emphasized that damage assessments are still underway and additional findings could be released as survey crews continue examining storm paths. The National Weather Service said updated information will be provided once more field work is completed.
The agency also reminded residents that tornado damage surveys often require significant time because crews assess the entire damage path, which can stretch across multiple communities and counties. Search and rescue operations, when necessary, take priority before complete surveys can be conducted in the hardest-hit areas.
Monday’s storms produced widespread severe weather across portions of northern Illinois, bringing damaging winds, heavy rain, and multiple tornado warnings. While preliminary ratings have now been assigned to two tornadoes, additional storm damage could still be classified as crews complete their inspections.
Looking ahead, the weather pattern is expected to remain quiet through midweek. According to the National Weather Service, dry and comfortable conditions are forecast through Thursday before rain chances return Friday afternoon, with showers and possible thunderstorms expected into Saturday.
