Chelan County, WA – Authorities are investigating after human remains were recovered from the Columbia River near Rock Island Dam earlier this week, according to the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies received a report at approximately 7:38 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, of possible human remains in the Columbia River near Rock Island Dam. Deputies responded to the area and confirmed the report.

Detectives with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from the Chelan County Coroner’s Office responded by marine unit and recovered the remains from the river.

Officials said the Chelan County Coroner’s Office is conducting an ongoing investigation to determine the identity of the deceased. Authorities have not released any information regarding the person’s age, gender, or the circumstances surrounding the death.

Investigators also addressed speculation surrounding the discovery, confirming that the remains are not those of 18-year-old Erik Luna of Bridgeport, who remains a missing person.

The cause and manner of death have not been released, and officials have not indicated whether foul play is suspected.

The investigation remains active as the coroner’s office works to identify the deceased. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office.
