Charleston, West Virginia – Drivers across much of West Virginia will see dry pavement and springlike highs near 60 degrees along I-64 this afternoon, but rain will begin pushing into the region late tonight, changing road conditions before daybreak Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Charleston, dry and milder air will dominate through the afternoon, sending temperatures into the upper 50s and lower 60s statewide. Cities including Huntington, Parkersburg and Charleston are expected to reach the low to mid-60s, while higher elevations near Snowshoe remain cooler in the upper 40s.

The quiet stretch will not last. A cold front will advance from the west late tonight, bringing increasing clouds and scattered rain showers after midnight. The first showers may reach western counties near the Ohio River, including Huntington and Point Pleasant, before spreading east toward Beckley and Lewisburg early Sunday morning.

Motorists traveling overnight along I-64, I-77 and U.S. 50 should be prepared for wet roads and reduced visibility, especially toward sunrise Sunday. While widespread heavy rainfall is not expected, brief steady showers could create slick conditions on bridges and elevated roadways.

Sunday will trend cooler behind the front, with additional spotty showers possible. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the mild conditions Saturday but remain weather-aware heading into early Sunday. Additional statements may be issued if rainfall coverage increases or the front slows overnight.
