Charleston, WV – A record low temperature of 43°F was set Sunday morning in Charleston, breaking the previous record of 45°F set in 1944. Parkersburg also tied its record low for the date at 42°F, a mark last hit in 1986.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston, a frost advisory is in effect for several counties, including Pocahontas and Randolph, as temperatures are expected to drop again overnight. Patchy frost may form in lowland valley areas, while river valley fog could develop throughout the region.
The frost advisory covers areas of Nicholas and Webster counties as well, with temperatures expected to dip into the 30s by early Monday. The NWS advised residents to protect sensitive vegetation from the cold.
A steady warming trend is expected to start on Monday, with temperatures rising into the 80s by midweek in lower elevations. However, colder valley spots may remain vulnerable to frost before the warming trend fully takes hold.
