Channahon, IL – Fire crews were called early Tuesday morning to assist with a chemical incident at Americas Styrenics on Frontage Road West. The incident involved a railcar experiencing a thermal event that began late Monday night.
According to the Channahon Fire Protection District, the team was dispatched to help cool the railcar using large-volume master streams and handlines. Hazardous Materials Technicians from Division 15 were also on-site to monitor air quality.
While there is no immediate threat to public safety, officials ask the public to avoid the area. The situation is improving and remains under constant evaluation.
