Champaign, IL – Two Champaign high schools were secured Monday after police investigated an active threat call that turned out to be false. Police responded at 2:01 p.m. after receiving a 9-1-1 call about a potential armed person at Centennial High School.

The caller’s account raised suspicion, and officers quickly cleared both Centennial and Central High Schools. Police swept the schools to ensure no danger existed. Unit 4 officials placed both schools on lockdown as a precaution, but the lockdown was lifted by 2:30 p.m.

According to the Champaign Police, very few students were present as it was an early dismissal day. Investigators are working to trace the source of the call. No arrests have been made, and police are requesting additional information from the public.
