Fort Worth, Texas – Residents across North and Central Texas should prepare for additional rounds of thunderstorms tonight as heavy rainfall raises concerns for localized flooding, particularly south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, scattered thunderstorms are expected to redevelop this afternoon and continue increasing in coverage through the overnight hours into early Monday morning. While the severe weather threat remains low, heavy rainfall could create flooding concerns in areas already under a Flood Watch.

The greatest flood threat is centered across portions of Central Texas, including Waco, Killeen and surrounding communities. Forecast guidance shows numerous thunderstorms developing overnight, with repeated rounds of rain capable of producing localized flooding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas.

Across Texas, cities including Dallas, Fort Worth, Sherman, Paris, Graham, Cisco, Canton and Palestine could also see scattered thunderstorms through the evening and overnight. The primary hazards will be heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and gusty winds rather than widespread severe weather.

Motorists traveling on Interstate 35, Interstate 20, Interstate 30 and U.S. Highway 287 should be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions. Heavy downpours may reduce visibility and lead to water-covered roads, especially overnight when flooding hazards can be more difficult to identify.

Residents in flood-prone locations should closely monitor weather conditions and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Even shallow water can sweep vehicles off the road. The National Weather Service continues to emphasize the importance of the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” safety message during periods of heavy rainfall.

Storm coverage is expected to increase from late evening through daybreak Monday, with the heaviest rainfall focused across parts of Central Texas. Additional Flood Advisories, Flood Warnings or Special Weather Statements may be issued overnight as thunderstorms continue developing across the region.
