Fort Wayne, IN Murder Arrest Made After Deadly Broadway Shooting

Fort Wayne, IN – Fort Wayne police have arrested a 36-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning on the city’s south side.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded at approximately 2:59 a.m. Sunday, July 5, to the 1900 block of Broadway after receiving reports of a disturbance involving a weapon.

When officers arrived, they discovered a shooting victim, who was transported to a local hospital. Investigators later determined the victim had been shot during the disturbance and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Fort Wayne Police Department’s Homicide Unit launched a criminal investigation into the case.

Following the investigation, detectives identified 36-year-old Cameron Mikell of Fort Wayne as the suspect.

At approximately 9 p.m. Monday, July 6, members of the Fort Wayne Police Department Homicide Task Force located Mikell near the intersection of Lower Huntington Road and Bluffton Road and took him into custody without incident.

Police said Mikell was preliminarily charged with:

  • Murder
  • Unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon

He was transported to the Allen County Jail.

Authorities have not released additional details about the victim or the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing.

The charges are allegations, and Cameron Mikell is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
