Elko, NV – The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Central Nevada. This takes effect from 10 a.m. Wednesday through 8 p.m. as strong southwest winds, dry conditions, and low humidity combine to create an elevated fire risk.
According to the NWS, wind speeds will reach 15-25 mph with gusts nearing 35 mph. Humidity could drop as low as 7%, significantly raising the likelihood of wildfire spread. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged as conditions can cause fires to ignite and spread quickly.
Fire Weather Watches are also in effect across Northern Nevada. Residents along U.S. 50 and U.S. 93 are urged to remain alert to any fire developments. Local authorities advise the public to avoid wildfires and immediately call 911 if one is spotted.
Elko’s forecast for Wednesday predicts highs around 78°F. Temperatures will cool slightly later this week, with lows dipping into the 40s.
