Aberdeen, SD – Wildfire smoke is expected to impact air quality in northeastern South Dakota today and into the night. Smoke drifting from wildfires in the west will cause visibility issues and may affect those with sensitive health conditions.

According to the US National Weather Service in Aberdeen, seniors, children, and individuals with compromised immune systems face the greatest risk. The agency advises limiting outdoor activities, particularly for those in central and northeastern parts of the state. The most intense periods of smoke exposure are expected between noon and 11 p.m. today.

Forecasters predict temperatures will remain hot, reaching a high of 91 degrees by late afternoon. Winds from the northwest may push the smoke across the region until late Wednesday. The weather pattern shows little relief, with more hot days ahead. Aberdeen will experience highs in the 80s through Friday, with partly cloudy skies throughout the week.

Residents should stay updated on air quality by monitoring official channels and limit exertion outdoors during peak smoke hours.
