Minnesota – A light snow system is poised to hit central Minnesota Saturday night, bringing 1 to 3 inches of accumulation before ushering in much colder temperatures. Travelers along I-94 and surrounding areas should prepare for slippery conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, the snow is expected to begin late Saturday evening and continue into early Sunday. The steadiest snowfall will occur in central Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with up to 3 inches possible. Areas to the north of I-94 are most likely to experience higher totals.

Temperatures will drop sharply following the storm. Sunday’s high is forecast near 18°F, and northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph will bring wind chills below zero. By Monday, the daytime high in Minneapolis will only reach 7°F, with overnight lows plummeting to -4°F.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution late Saturday and early Sunday as untreated roads may become icy. Prepare for potential delays if traveling through the region. Those venturing outdoors next week should dress in layers to protect against the bitter cold.

The light snow Saturday is part of a weak system moving east, and while accumulations are modest, hazardous travel conditions could occur in spots. After the snow, a high-pressure system will bring clear skies but frigid temperatures through midweek.
