Indianapolis, IN – Central Indiana is gearing up for a day of back-to-back thunderstorms, bringing potential disruptions to the region.

According to the US National Weather Service Indianapolis, the first wave of thunderstorms is expected to hit late this morning, continuing into the early afternoon. A second round is anticipated in the late afternoon and early evening. While periods of dry weather are forecasted between the storms, the potential for severe weather remains high throughout the day.

Residents are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions. “When thunder roars, go indoors!” the Weather Service advises, emphasizing the risks associated with lightning and strong winds. The storms could bring heavy rainfall, localized flooding, and hazardous driving conditions, particularly during the commute hours.

Temperatures today are expected to range from 79 to 82 degrees, adding to the humid and unstable atmosphere conducive to thunderstorm development. The Weather Service recommends securing outdoor items that could become projectiles in strong winds and being prepared for possible power outages.
