Peoria, IL – Central Illinois is bracing for a series of thunderstorms and high heat index values over the next few days. Afternoon highs will reach the low to mid-90s today, with heat index values nearing 100 degrees. Isolated thunderstorms are likely this afternoon, particularly near and north of the Illinois River Valley.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, today’s high will be between 90 and 93 degrees, with a heat index reaching 98 degrees. Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and tonight, with a low around 70 to 74 degrees.

On Thursday, temperatures will rise to 92 to 95 degrees, with a heat index of up to 102 degrees. Isolated storms are possible in the afternoon, with nighttime lows from 69 to 73 degrees. Friday will be mostly sunny, with highs between 94 and 97 degrees and a nighttime low of 72 to 77 degrees.

The heat will continue into the weekend, with Saturday’s high reaching 94 to 97 degrees. A chance of thunderstorms returns on Sunday, with highs between 88 and 94 degrees and a heat index up to 99 degrees. Sunday night will see temperatures dropping to 63 to 71 degrees.
