Springfield, Ill. – Multiple rounds of rain will dampen plans across Central Illinois through late Sunday, with showers becoming likely in cities like Danville, Effingham, and Mattoon by Saturday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a slow-moving weather system is driving scattered to widespread rain chances across the region, especially east of the Illinois River Valley. Rain probabilities increase sharply Saturday, reaching 75% in Danville by noon and staying elevated into Sunday evening. Effingham and Mattoon follow a similar trend, with 60–75% rain chances during peak weekend hours.

Champaign and Decatur will also see intermittent rainfall, especially Saturday afternoon into early Sunday, while Bloomington and Peoria may get brief breaks between showers. Rainfall will keep temperatures cooler than average, with highs ranging from the upper 50s to mid-60s across most of the area.

Drivers should prepare for wet roads, reduced visibility, and the potential for brief downpours during heavier showers. Residents planning outdoor activities should monitor hourly rain updates and keep umbrellas or ponchos handy.

Drier and sunnier conditions are expected to return by Tuesday, but showers could linger into Monday morning, especially in southeastern counties. Updates will continue through the weekend as new rainfall patterns develop.
