Champaign, IL — Rain showers will ease across central Illinois on Thursday, leaving behind cloudy skies that will gradually clear as the weekend begins. Friday is forecasted to bring partly sunny skies, giving residents a welcome break from recent rain. However, residents should prepare for a significant drop in temperature starting midweek, as a cold front is set to move in.
According to the U.S. National Weather Service, Friday will see temperatures reach the mid-50s, with low temperatures dipping to 39 degrees by nightfall. Patchy fog may form late Friday night, impacting visibility for those traveling early Saturday morning. Saturday will remain partly sunny, with temperatures around 57 degrees during the day. Temperatures will peak at 62 degrees on Sunday, though clouds will increase, and rain may return late in the evening.
The start of the workweek on Monday looks wetter, with widespread rain anticipated by the afternoon and evening hours. Monday’s highs will range from 60 to 66 degrees, but the cold front will bring much colder air by Tuesday. Residents can expect highs in the upper 50s to low 60s as the temperature trend drops, bringing a sharper chill to the region.
Motorists across the Champaign area and along Interstate 57 should prepare for wet road conditions early in the week and monitor for potential fog advisories late Friday. The National Weather Service advises residents to prepare for rapidly changing conditions and to keep up with local forecasts as the colder weather approaches.
