Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois residents should prepare for heavy rainfall starting Thursday night as remnants of a tropical storm move northeast. Areas near and south of I-70 could see over an inch of rain by Saturday morning.

According to the US National Weather Service Central Illinois, rain chances begin as early as Thursday night and continue through Sunday. The highest potential for rain remains in southern Illinois, with a 60-70% chance of at least 1 inch of rain, especially near I-70 and I-55. Residents should remain cautious of flooding in low-lying areas and plan for slower travel during peak rain hours.

With the heaviest rain expected south of I-72 and lingering showers east of I-55, weekend travel may be affected. Officials advise keeping updated through weather alerts and avoiding flooded roads.
