Central Illinois: 16-Year-Old Arrested After Shots Fired at Peoria Police Officer

Peoria, IL – A 16-year-old teen was arrested Thursday after allegedly firing shots at a Peoria Police officer. The incident occurred around 9:15 p.m. near the 2800 block of W. Ann Street following a report of a male armed with a gun.

According to Peoria Police, officers arrived to find three males, two juveniles aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old. As officers approached, one of the subjects allegedly fired shots at them. No one was injured, and the three suspects fled on foot. Officers quickly apprehended them after a brief chase.

Officers searched the flight path and located a discarded handgun in the 2900 block of W. Proctor. Spent shell casings were also recovered at the scene.

The 16-year-old was arrested for aggravated discharge, aggravated assault on a peace officer, and related charges. The 14-year-old and 18-year-old males were released without charges.

The arrested juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
