Central Illinois: 10-Year-Old Boy Found Fatally Shot in Peoria on Sunday Evening

Peoria, IL – A 10-year-old boy was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound Sunday evening in Peoria. Police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at approximately 7:36 p.m. on the 600 block of W. RB Garrett Avenue, where two gunshots were detected.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the young boy suffering from a gunshot wound. He was quickly transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Peoria County Coroner will release the boy’s identity and cause of death.

According to the Peoria Police Department, the Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit were dispatched to the scene and initiated an investigation. At this time, no suspects have been identified, and the case remains open.
