Birmingham, Alabama – Strong thunderstorms could rattle much of central Alabama Thursday as temperatures rise into the mid-80s, with severe weather possible by the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, scattered showers and storms will move through the state with intermittent breaks in the morning. The main threat will come later in the day, as some storms could become strong to severe, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning. Highs will reach 84°F in cities like Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Gadsden, while parts of eastern Alabama, including Alex City, may touch 87°F.

Tonight, temperatures will dip into the mid-60s across the region—60°F in Gadsden, 64°F in Birmingham, and 62°F in Clanton—with continued rain chances into the evening hours. Residents across I-65 and I-20 corridors should remain alert for localized flooding or travel delays during downpours.

Drivers are urged to slow down during heavy rain and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Make sure cell phones are charged in case of power outages, and monitor NOAA Weather Radio or local alerts for updates.

Storm activity may linger into early Friday morning, with additional advisories possible if conditions worsen.
