Cedar Lake, IN – A Cedar Lake man was arrested after a road rage incident in St. John, Indiana, on Wednesday morning, with the help of a Tesla’s onboard camera system that captured crucial evidence.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 AM on May 6, 2025, when the victim, driving a Tesla, reported being tailgated by a red Jeep while heading eastbound on W. 109th Avenue. After safely passing the Jeep, the victim noticed the Jeep’s driver pointing a handgun at him through the windshield.

As both vehicles approached a red light at W. 109th Avenue and Cline Avenue, they came to a stop. The victim claimed the Jeep driver exited his vehicle with the handgun in hand, prompting the victim to fear for his life. The victim immediately drove through the red light and called the police.

The victim’s Tesla was equipped with external cameras, which recorded the entire encounter. Officers were able to retrieve and enhance the footage to capture the Jeep’s license plate number, which led them to identify 40-year-old Shawn M. Parker of Cedar Lake.

Parker was arrested at his residence later that day. Several firearms were found after police obtained consent to search his property. He was subsequently charged with Level 5 Felony Intimidation and Level 6 Felony Pointing a Firearm.

“The quick resolution of this dangerous situation was made possible thanks to the Tesla’s onboard cameras, which provided essential evidence,” said St. John Police Chief Steven Flores. “We commend our officers for their swift and professional response.”
