Cedar Lake, IN – The Cedar Lake Police Department will host a Community Outreach Program on basic firearms safety on Saturday, July 20, at 10 a.m. at the Cedar Lake Town Council Meeting Room, 7408 Constitution Ave.

According to the CLPD, Reserve Corporal Harry Preste will lead the 90-minute session aimed at educating participants on essential firearm safety practices. The program will also provide informational handouts to attendees. This initiative is part of the department’s ongoing efforts to enhance community safety and awareness.

Every individual who attends the event will receive a free firearm lock, generously donated by Project ChildSafe. These locks are intended to promote safe storage of firearms, thereby reducing the risk of accidental shootings and unauthorized access.

The program is free of charge, and the police department encourages all interested community members to participate. To ensure adequate preparation and materials, attendees are asked to RSVP by July 17. Reservations can be made by calling 219-374-5416, ext 111, or by emailing sarah.moore@cedarlakein.org.

This event is made possible through grant support from NIPSCO and the NiSource Foundation, demonstrating a strong partnership between local organizations and the police department in promoting public safety. Don’t miss this opportunity to learn vital safety skills and contribute to a safer community.
