Walton, IN – Firefighters from multiple Cass County agencies quickly contained a structure fire Tuesday morning in Walton, preventing flames from spreading to a nearby residence and leaving no reported injuries.
According to the Walton Community Fire Department, crews were dispatched at approximately 10:20 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, to the 6300 block of East 650 South for a confirmed garage and residential structure fire. A large column of smoke was visible from the scene, prompting requests for additional mutual aid from Logansport Fire Department for tanker assistance and Grissom Fire Department for manpower and additional water support.
Firefighters arrived in less than five minutes and found heavy fire coming from the rear of a story-and-a-half garage with flames threatening a residence on the south side of the property. Crews deployed a 2.5-inch attack line to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire, stopping it from extending to the neighboring structure.
Additional crews used ground ladders to reach the second-floor living area while firefighters advanced attack lines to both the upper level and first floor. Primary and secondary searches of the structure were completed, and no occupants were found inside.
Firefighters remained at the scene for approximately two hours conducting overhaul and salvage operations. According to the fire department, the fire was determined to be accidental, and no injuries were reported.
Agencies assisting at the scene included the New Waverly Fire Department, Galveston Fire Department, Grissom Fire Department, Logansport Fire Department, Cass County EMS, Cass County Central Dispatch, Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Cass County Emergency Management Agency, and the Walton Police Department.
