Los Angeles, CA – Wildfires continue to rage across Los Angeles, burning thousands of acres and prompting international assistance. Canada has authorized the deployment of its air force to aid containment efforts.
Canada’s National Defence Minister Bill Blair confirmed the support Thursday afternoon. “Canadian Forces stand ready to transport personnel and equipment to support our American neighbors,” Blair announced in a statement on X. This assistance highlights the growing urgency as Los Angeles battles five active wildfires.
According to CAL Fire, the Palisades fire has burned 19,978 acres, surpassing the size of Manhattan, which spans 14,604 acres. Despite significant efforts, containment remains at 6%. CAL Fire officials describe this fire as one of the most destructive in the area.
In Pasadena, the Eaton fire has consumed at least 13,690 acres since Tuesday. It remains uncontained, posing a significant threat to nearby communities. Meanwhile, the Kenneth fire, the latest blaze ignited Thursday, has scorched 960 acres and also lacks containment.
Progress has been made in other areas. The Lidia fire, which began Wednesday, is now 75% contained after spreading to 394 acres. The Hurst fire, burning in the San Fernando Valley, has reached 711 acres and is 37% contained.
Canadian air support will help transport personnel and equipment to high-risk areas. Fire officials expect these resources to improve containment strategies in the coming days.
The wildfires have displaced thousands of residents, and officials urge locals to follow evacuation orders. CAL Fire predicts challenging conditions ahead due to dry weather and high winds.
