Lincoln, IL – After a weekend of heavy rain and strong winds from the remnants of Hurricane Helene, Central Illinois can expect clearer skies and calmer conditions by Monday. The storm system will move out of the region late Sunday, bringing relief from gusts of up to 55 mph and soaking rains.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Monday will see sunny skies and temperatures ranging from 74-82°F across central Illinois. This comes as a welcome break for residents, especially those along I-70, who dealt with the heaviest rain over the weekend.

While conditions will improve significantly, residents should still be cautious of slick roads and lingering debris from the high winds. The week ahead is forecast to bring more stable weather, with cooler temperatures by Tuesday night dropping into the 40s.

For updated weather forecasts and road conditions, continue to follow the NWS and local advisories as cleanup begins across the region.
