California to Indiana I-70 Traffic Stop Nets $1 Million Cocaine Bust in Indiana

Putnam County, IN – A routine traffic stop on I-70 turned into a major drug seizure for an Indiana State Trooper, who discovered an estimated $1 million worth of cocaine. 

According to Indiana State Police reports the incident occurred near the 41 mile-marker eastbound around 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, when a white Freightliner tractor-trailer, traveling from Los Angeles, California to Indianapolis, Indiana, was stopped for a Department of Transportation compliance inspection. 

The trooper’s alertness led to a consensual search after noting suspicious behavior from the driver, unveiling 70 pounds of cocaine, 45 pounds of marijuana, and $47,735 in cash.

The driver was arrested on the spot and faces charges of dealing narcotics, a Level 2 Felony, and dealing marijuana, a Level 5 Felony, awaiting trial in the Putnam County Jail. This bust highlights the vital role of traffic enforcement in combating drug trafficking across state lines.
