Las Vegas, Nevada — Strong desert winds will create hazardous travel and possible power outages across southern Nevada, eastern California and northwest Arizona Sunday, with peak impacts from late morning through early evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, south winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday across Las Vegas-area routes, including Laughlin, Beatty, Bishop, Lone Pine and Bullhead City.

Blowing dust may rapidly reduce visibility along open stretches of US-95 and near low-lying desert basins around Beatty and Goldfield, while crosswinds could push high-profile vehicles on I-15 near Barstow and along US-395 through Owens Valley. Loose objects may be blown into roadways, and isolated power outages are possible if tree limbs fall.

A second, longer-duration wind surge will impact Barstow, Daggett and Fort Irwin from 3 p.m. Sunday through 11 p.m. Monday, extending travel risks into the Monday evening commute with continued gusts near 45 mph.

Drivers should avoid unnecessary travel during peak wind hours and keep both hands on the wheel, especially in exposed desert corridors. Residents should secure outdoor items before winds increase.

The most dangerous travel conditions will occur between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday, when gusts and blowing dust are strongest.
