SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Two Californian men, David Dowling-Chacon, 41, and Luis Dukes-Acosta, 38, were arrested on Interstate 55 near Springfield for attempting to traffic over 100 kilograms of cocaine during a routine motor carrier safety inspection.
The operation, supported by multiple agencies including the DEA, resulted in the discovery of approximately 103 kilograms of suspected cocaine in the men’s tractor trailer.
The suspects were apprehended August 15th when a trooper’s suspicions were raised during their interaction. Law enforcement officers uncovered the massive quantity of cocaine after searching the vehicle.
If found guilty, Dowling-Chacon and Dukes-Acosta could face severe consequences, including a mandatory minimum prison sentence of 10 years and the possibility of a life sentence, in addition to a potential fine of up to $10 million.
