San Francisco Bay Area, California – A storm warning remains in effect for multiple marine areas off the coast of California this Saturday afternoon, with hazardous conditions expected to continue until 9 p.m. As northwest winds howl between 25 to 40 knots, gusts reaching up to 55 knots are creating treacherous conditions for mariners across waters from Point Arena to Point Reyes, and from Point Reyes to Pigeon Point.

According to the National Weather Service, wave heights in some areas could range from 9 to 15 feet, significantly increasing the risk of vessel capsizing or damage. Mariners are urged to remain in port or secure their vessels to avoid severe conditions and reduced visibility.

The storm warning covers a vast area including both nearshore waters and more distant stretches of the Pacific, from Point Arena to Point Reyes, as well as from Point Reyes to Pigeon Point. This broad alert includes both the 10 to 60 nautical mile zone and the 10 nautical mile zone, with the strongest winds expected in the latter. The advisory is especially concerning for small craft, which are particularly vulnerable to the rough seas and intense gusts.

Boaters and other maritime operations should take immediate precautions to safeguard their vessels, avoid unnecessary travel, and prepare for significant disruptions. These conditions, while common during certain seasonal weather events, are particularly severe for this time of year.

The storm warning will expire at 9 p.m. PDT today, but additional advisories could be issued depending on changing conditions. Stay tuned for further updates.
