Escondido, CA – A 24-year-old California man tragically died after being electrocuted while hanging Christmas lights, his family confirmed.
Antonio Pascual was decorating a tree with holiday lights when he came into contact with power lines. According to his family, Pascual fell and remained trapped in the tree for an hour before rescue teams could act. Authorities had to cut power to the area before reaching him. Efforts to save him were unsuccessful.
Pascual, described as a devoted son, brother, and uncle, had been preparing the family home for the holiday season. “He always took care of his mother and family,” the family shared in a statement on their fundraiser page.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to cover funeral expenses and transport Pascual’s body to Guatemala, where his mother hopes to bury him in his birthplace. The campaign has raised over $10,000 of its $20,000 goal.
The family says Christmas lights will always carry a deeper meaning for them. “He will remain in our hearts for eternity,” they wrote.
