Eureka, CA – A Flood Watch is in effect from early Wednesday to Friday morning, impacting much of Humboldt and Mendocino counties. Residents along Highway 101 are urged to prepare for prolonged heavy rain, which may cause localized flooding and hazardous road conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected, with up to 8 inches in mountainous areas. Rapid rises in rivers, creeks, and streams, along with water pooling on low-lying roads, are anticipated. Authorities warn against driving through flooded areas and advise turning around if water covers the roadway.
Highway 101 and surrounding rural roads are likely to experience delays or closures, especially in areas prone to landslides. Residents in flood-prone zones should have an evacuation plan in place and secure outdoor items to prevent damage from strong winds accompanying the storm.
In addition to rain, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Trinity County, where snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches could impact travel over mountain passes, including Highway 299. Chains may be required for vehicles traveling at elevations above 4,000 feet.
The extended forecast shows continued rain and breezy conditions through Friday, with lighter showers expected Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will range from highs near 53°F to lows in the mid-40s.
