Pittsburgh, PA – Rain, snow, and plummeting temperatures are expected to create hazardous travel conditions across western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia this week. A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for higher terrain areas of West Virginia starting Thursday afternoon, with up to six inches of snow predicted.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), rain showers will begin moving into the Pittsburgh area today, with high temperatures reaching 66 degrees. Showers will persist tonight and into Wednesday, with temperatures gradually falling. By Thursday morning, rain may transition to snow in the region, particularly near I-68 and other higher elevation roadways. Little to no accumulation is expected in Pittsburgh, but drivers traveling south and east should remain alert.
The forecast predicts a mix of rain and snow Thursday, followed by steady rain through Friday and into Saturday. Gusty winds along with falling temperatures will create a higher risk for slippery roads. NWS advises residents to plan ahead for travel delays and to monitor weather updates.
For Pittsburgh, temperatures will dip to 31 degrees by Thursday night, increasing the likelihood of icy patches on roads. Friday and Saturday will remain rainy, with highs hovering in the mid-40s.
Residents in affected areas should secure outdoor items, stock emergency kits, and exercise caution on wet or icy roads. Stay informed by following local forecasts and alerts from NWS.
