Buffalo, New York – Areas of fog are expected to persist across Buffalo and surrounding areas through the evening, with near-freezing temperatures increasing the risk for slick travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, fog will continue across western and north-central New York before gradually improving later tonight. Visibility may be reduced at times, especially during the evening commute.
Temperatures across the Buffalo area are forecast to fall into the low to mid-30s overnight, with some locations dropping to around 32 degrees or slightly below. As temperatures dip below freezing, areas of black ice are possible, particularly east of Lake Ontario where colder readings are more likely.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick even where pavement appears dry. The National Weather Service advises motorists to slow down, increase following distance, and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions.
Improving visibility is expected later tonight, but isolated icy spots could linger into the overnight hours before temperatures rise again.
